Day two at the track

We got up this morning and had a great breakfast. Being as how the race didn't start till 6:00 PM we went for a walk. This works in well with Sue's plan to walk my legs off. Last year we never went into the track area. So we headed up to the Tackside club and checked in. Got or wrist bands so we can go most everywhere. Track side club is nice good seating on the back stretch with complimentary beer and wine. Breakfast, lunch and dinner depending on the races. Trackside club is the big white tent in the center.

So then we walked around inside the track. Had our picture taken with a fake Clint Boyer at the Jack Daniels tent. He is one of our heros.

While were were inside the track we saw the Sears Craftsman display. Sue just could not resist her old home. After a long walk we ended up in the pits. Lots of action going on as the cup cars were testings. In and out in and out.

Hitched a ride back up to the club in one of their golf cars. From there back to the RV and a visit with our neighbors Lyn and Kent a couple guys from Mesa. Left for the race about 4:30 and had dinner then watched the race. Ron Hornaday won. There was a beautiful sunset and great fire works. All in all a good day. Sue got 14000 steps on her pedometer.

Whirlwind

What a last 24 hours. Got up yesterday morning it was already 70. Had breakfast, did a few motor home chores getting ready for PIR (Phoenix International Raceway) Then went over to Arizona Traditions to play some golf. We played so-so, and had a great time. Golfed with Janet and Don. Two of the Sunland folks from the gorge in Washington.

After golf we went to Janet and Waynes house with Don, Billie, Clarene and Mike. All also from Sunland. Had meatball soup and salad. All in all a wonderful evening. Got home about 9PM and went to bed early for the move in the morning.

We got up at 6:30 this morning and packed up Snuffy for the trip to PIR. Arrived here with no trouble at all. We found our spot. Our timing was great like last year. No trouble we just backed in put out our grass, put up the flags, bloody Mary and screwdriver. It's not 9:30 AM. We have a day of rest then the races start tomorrow.

Geting ready

Went out for breakfast/lunch this morning. Would have gotten out sooner but Sue had to do her absentee ballot. Went to Coyote Springs and got a golf ball for my collection. We played there last year but they were out of balls.

Came back to Happy Trails and went to the pool. There is a bunch of folks that show up about 2:30 and walk back and forth across the pool. Set another record today for heat. 93 which beat the record from 1980. They say it is suppose to get cooler his weekend. This will be good as we will be at the track.
The pool is nice except they have these umbrellas that are just the right height. I think I have hit my head on this one about 20 times in the last two days.

Here are a couple pictures of Happy Trails

This last one is what the thermometer said in Snuffly this afternoon. They did set another record today at 93. Last year it was much cooler.

A day of rest

Today was a day of rest, well so to speak. Sue didn't really rest she did four loads of laundry. She loves laundry so I guess it is a holiday. Anyway we have lots of clean clothes. After that which was done by 11:00 AM we went to the store and got some supplies.

Stopped and took a picture of Sun City Grand were we played golf yesterday with Denice and Ernie Machato from Twin Lakes. Would have take a picture then but I forgot the flash card.

We then came back to Happy Trails and went to the Pool. Dipped about three times and read some books. Pool is fun. Folks come and gather and walk back and forth across the pool. Exercise. Lots of gabbing.

We are back at Snuffy now. Our friend Virginia Hessler from the ASGA days is coming over for dinner. She lives here in the winter and visits north in the summer. I will add some pictures later for anyone who reads this now.

Happy at Happy Trails

Well we made it. Got in yesterday about 2:30 after driving from the Riverside Casino RV Park in Laughlin, Nevada. Trip did a lot of climbing and then back down. Hal, the computer refused to work. Need to figure that one out before we head to Palm Springs in a couple weeks.

After arriving and setting every thing up we went to the pool. They have 5 pools here and 4 hot tubs. The pool felt real good as it was in the 90s. Steve being the sun guy that he is would love this place. He could hang out in the sun 365 days a year.

Talked to our last years landlord Bill and his wife. Called some of our friends that stay down here a lot more than us. Going golfing today with Denise and Earnie Machato from Twin Lakes. They have a place at Sun City Grand. Sue is out for a walk while I blog. Here is last nights sunset.

Back home again in Happy Trails

It has been a long day and with all the set up and phone calls. I'm tired. I will try and catch up tomorrow. Mickie's team won last night. Paper would not let me download the picture. We are happy at Happy Trails. More tomorrow.

Mesquite to Laughlin

Laughlin by night.

Laughling by day

We enjoyed ourselves yesterday in Mesquite. Got up in the morning and took a walk. (Sue is again trying to walk me healthy). Walked to the Casablanca Casino. About a half mile down the road. This place was the largest of the three paces near where we were parked. Played a bit and walked back. We went back for dinner as we had a 2 for 1 dinner coupon. Traveling makes you cheep. Stopped at the Oasis on the way back and used up the earlier gambling tickets. All in all I think we came out even in Mesquite.

Left this morning and headed south to Laughlin. Trip was again uneventful. Ran into a bunch of traffic in Las Vegas. We were going to stop for lunch but it was a mess. Stopped outside of town and had some homemade ham sandwiches. Yummy. Got to Laughlin about 2pm. Same place we stayed last year. Up on the hill overlooking the casinos.

After parking we went to the Riverside and got tickets to see Mark Chesnutt. Not too bad only $28 bucks each. And we have almost front row seats. Same place we saw Frankie Avalon last year. While we were running aroundstairs we ran across some machines for brother Mike.

Went into the casino and did the gambling thing. I lost $25 bucks but came back to a $6 buck loss. Went out the back door to what they call the River Walk. This is a walkway from one casino to another. Get the idea. Well we walked to the Aquarius. Spent a little more money there. One good thing about the casinos in Nevada is that the give you free drinks as long as you are gambling. Too bad the Indians in Washington don't do that. Saw some spookie stuff left over from last night on the walk .

The RV park here is nice. It's on a hill over looking the strip. Short as it is. Cable TV, shuttle and all the normal stuff. We will be staying here thru tomorrow night, then on to Surprise, Arizona and Happy Tails. One week from moving into the races. Its nice and warm here. Was in the 90's this after noon. It is 77 outside now at 7:30 PM. Think it is going to be even hotter in Phoenix.

We ran out of some groceries and had to go to the store. Thougth Steve would like to know that there is a "Times" everywhere.
