Trip to Paia

We went up to Paia yesterday to have lunch at Charlie's Bar (Note, when you see something highlighted like Charlies Bar is, that is a link to a separate page.) This is the place that Willie Nelson is suppose to hang out. We it was a bummer as apparently there was a fire Christmas morning. Didn't look too bad from the outside, but they were closed. If you look at the web page from above Charlie's bar you can get a bit of an idea of what it was like. Look at all those albums of Willies. Hope the were saved.

After that we still needed to eat. We found a little place around the corner off the street. Don't remember the name. But it fit Sue and I to a tee. A nice sleazy bar. Meg was the bartender with happy hour Margaritas. Very good lunch. We will go back again. Meg was a good bartender.

We came back here an took a dip in the pool and read for a while. Mostly just relaxed the rest of the night. Sunday is good as we get the paper delivered now so we sit and read on the Lani. Sue is out for a walk as usual. I'm blogging. Time travels so fast. I have a little post it note on my computer that I check off days. We just got here but look at all the x's

Moving Day and more

Well, its been a busy two days. Yesterday we moved. We were at Kihei Beach Condos and now we are at Menehune Shores. We stayed there for a week so we could be here in time to celebrate our anniversary. We could not get into here until the 3rd. It took three trips to move. I can't figure out how we collect so much junk (mostly food) in just a week.

Lucky we were able to hang out in the first place long enough to get into here. That helped with the move. As you can see we had a whole lot of stuff.

Anyway the new digs are really cool. Very nice and clean. Sue got to wash cloths. She was in heaven again. It's quieter here as we are back a little more from the beach. Like maybe 50 feet.

In front of the condo is man made reef. This was done a long time ago by the ancient Hawaiians. They trapped and raised fish. Kind of like the modern day fish farms. This keeps the waves a little farther out. Last time we were here they were working on restoring the levees.Check out this link Fish Ponds The building on the right is the Whale Museum.

We got settled in and watched the Mercedes from Kapalua. Vijay did bad. Yea......

We went to Mulligans at the Wailea blue golf course for dinner. Bummer, last time we were there there was a nice cat. None last night.

Got up early this morning to go golfing at The Dunes at Maui Lani with Carol and Gordie Homer. These are the folks we meant earlier. We had a blast. They are a very nice couple from Vancouver B. C.

Hope we get to get together with them when back at home. Golf was fun. The Dunes is a nice challenge. They are doing a lot of building around the course so it was a bit noisy. Had a nice visit after golf. They are leaving Sunday for Hana and then home.

They have some of the Hawaiian State birds around. The "Nene"
they look a lot like our Canadian Honkers. I haven't figured out why to protect them if they poop like a honker.

We are back now watching the Mercedes again. Vijay is still doing bad...Good....

Golf and other things

We started the new year with golf at Elleair. We had a tee time at 11:48 and got paired up with Carol and Gordon Homer. They were really a nice couple from Vancouver B.C. Elleair has changed a lot in two years. There are now houses in the center of the back 9. Didn't take any pictures so more later from there. We will be playing with Carol and
Gordy Friday at Maui Dunes.

We got home in time to see the local folks around here. Sign everywhere says do not reserve lawn chairs. This guy came out and marked four and left. He must not read like I can't spell.

Today was the Mercedes Pro Am. This at the Kapalua Plantation course. We hang out a bit up from the 10th green. This leaves us a look at the tee of the 11th and also the 14th. Good place to see a lot of folks go buy.

Saw Vijay Singh go buy. Last time we saw him (Two years ago) he was a butt. This time he stopped and signed autographs. Might be as he won last year. Saw Cheech Marin aka Cheech and Chong and Tim Cup. Was a windy day as it usually at Kapalua.

Stopped at Lalani's at Whalers Village and watched the world go bye. They say that Blackie and Sara are still around. Looking forward to visiting with them next week. For those who say who....I'll tell more later. This was just a nice Blimp from NASCAR last November 2007 Was a "Good Year"

Happy New Year

Happy New Year to everybody. We spent New Years Eve day visiting the scene of the crime. Like Whailea Gold and the Seawatch Restaurant That is where we got Mauied (Married) four, yes four, years ago. We had a nice breakfast. The waitress took this picture before we left.

This is the spot the the crime took place. Still as pretty as ever. It was even raining just like four years ago.

I wish I had the other Bag Drop picture with me. I took Sue's picture right here in her wedding dress, just before we got married. I figured I had better get in the picture this time.

I was a nice start to the day. We took a drive down Makena way, to the end of the road. Was a nice trip with very pretty beaches. Even saw an old Volcano.

However, things then got kind of bad for Maui. We were on our way back to the condo and it started raining and I mean RAINING. The news said later that there was between 3 and 5 inches on Maui. Well this was a bummer what with New Years Eve and all. We stopped at a store and picked up some dinner supplies. I came out of the store to a shower, like the kind you take in a bathtub. When it rains here it rains. When we got back to the condo it looked like this.

Well what do you do on a rainy day in Maui. You sit and read a book or you can sit and watch Oprah.

As all things Maui it does get better. We enjoyed the evening, Sue beat me at Scrabble, Who would have known that with the way I spell on the blog. (Remember, those are Joe'isms, created for humor) There were a lot of clouds so a sunset didn't seem in the cards. But you never know.

Today we are going to golf for the first time here. Will report on that later. Oh, buy the way, I did make it to Midnight, with a short nap from about 10:15 to 11:45. Lots of fire works all up and down the beach. So for now Aloha from Maui on the first say of a new year.

Getting Settled in......

Yesterday we did the Costco thing. Costco is about a block from the airport, but our convertible was already full of baggage and golf clubs, so we went back Saturday. Staples like wine and vodka and a few other things. Actually Safeway is just as good a deal and not so much of a drive.

We stopped on the way back at a nice restaurant next to the aquarium. Split a Chicken Ceasar salad for a nice lunch.

Back at the home stead we went to the pool, dipped and read for awhile. Sue cooked a great dinner and we watched the football came. Got up this morning and after reading the paper went to Lahaina for breakfast. Got there a bit late but found breakfast at Longhi's.

Sue shopped up and down the street, then we went to the Lahaina yacht club for a drink. I used my dads Tacoma yacht Club Card . Nice place on the water. Have to be member somewhere. Sue thought I looked good with a Santa with a skirt.

Back at the homestead again it was cloudy and a bit rain. Did some more reading and went to dinner at a good Italian Restaurant. Back home now reading and watch TV.

Tomorrow is the big day. Number 4. We will be going to Sea Watch a restaurant at Wailea Gold, where we were married. I'm suppose to stay up till Midnight (2am home time) I am going to try. Will report on that later. Till then Happy New year everybody.

Another adventure starts

Well, we are off again. Avo and Cado are doing fine with their new child Guacamole. Sue's seed finally got a root. Well see what the look like when we get back. Jr. is in another pot.

Packing is always fun, especially when most of my shorts were still in the Motor Home. I made about four trips back and forth to Snuffy. Golf clubs were in the hall.

It was a real shocker getting up at 3AM to catch a plane leaving at 6AM. Thank goodness for frequent flier miles and up grades. It's a lot easier checking in First Class. Beverages are better too. It was lack of sleep that made this picture so good.

Anyway we are here in Maui now. Got in at about noon. Came directly to the condo. This is a new place that we will be at for a week. Then we will move to Menenune shores for the rest of the trip. This place is a lot nicer than the place we were at last time here. We skipped Costco will go there today. Did go to Safeway. Gulp. Needed two baskets. Our new kitchen.

Sue is in Heaven. Glass of wine, Great view. No whales yet. It's still early in their season.

Right on the beach. I can hear the waves as I type. Sue is out for her long walk and I am meeting here in a few. She went that way. Down Sugar Beach. I think you can walk about 5 miles. We will try the pool today.

Testing time

I tried to put this on the blog when were were gone. The old laptop just would not do it even when we had good connections. I'm doing a little testing of the blog system now that we are home. This was cleaning up the mess just after Dale Earnhart Jr. crashed. Maybe you should turn down your speakers.
